Paula Cole Picture
Paula Cole (born April 5, 1968 in Rockport, Massachusetts, USA) is an American singer and songwriter. Among her hits include "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone," "Me," "I Am So Ordinary," "I Believe In Love," and the theme to the WB's hit series "Dawson's Creek," "I Don't Want to Wait." Cole released her debut album, Harbinger, in 1994 with Imago Records. She so entranced the industry with her vocals that she was asked to tour as an opening act for Peter Gabriel; she also appeared with Melissa Etheridge to sing a duet on VH1 though she was not well-known at the time. Harbinger featured songs dwelling on Cole's personal experience with discrimination and unhappiness. The songs were musically lush but driven and bleak.

Paula Cole

(didnt your mama tell you how to behave, girl?
Didnt your daddy tell you not to wear that little thing? )
Been told you never get something for nothing
My stepfather dickie say I just might get hit
If I dont give
The girls all shisper hind my back
They try to break me whith cruel attacks
The boys they want only one thing
And so I give it, dont complain
Daddys gone, mama lost her job
Our house aint a home no more
Still my faiths unshaken in god
I feel so lonely for hope and company
I dont take much and I give everything for free
(so, dont you want me? )
The girls all whisperhind by back
My baby brothers smoking crack
The boys they want only one thing
And so I give it, dont complain
Daddys gone, mama lost her job
Our house aint a home no more
Still my faiths unshaken in god
I dream I get a record deal
Ill buy a way out of here
Or maybe a new lexus jeep
Or just a friend (am I dreamin? am I dreamin? )
Theres mr. roberts,juan and paul
All waiting for me down the hall
But then tomorrow they dont call
Still a moments better than none at all
Daddys gone (my name is la tonya)
Mama lost her job (I am a sophomore)
Our house aint a home no more (Ill be sixteen in august)
Since mama broke her soul (I like to sing in chorus)
Daddys gone (my name is la tonya)
Mama lost her job (I am a sophomore)
Our house aint a home no more (Ill be sixteen in august)
Still my faiths unshaken
Lord wont you please save me?
Is this the new slavery?
Here on the ghetto pavement?
But I believe in you baby
Yes, my faiths unshaken
In god
