Paula Cole Picture
Paula Cole (born April 5, 1968 in Rockport, Massachusetts, USA) is an American singer and songwriter. Among her hits include "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone," "Me," "I Am So Ordinary," "I Believe In Love," and the theme to the WB's hit series "Dawson's Creek," "I Don't Want to Wait." Cole released her debut album, Harbinger, in 1994 with Imago Records. She so entranced the industry with her vocals that she was asked to tour as an opening act for Peter Gabriel; she also appeared with Melissa Etheridge to sing a duet on VH1 though she was not well-known at the time. Harbinger featured songs dwelling on Cole's personal experience with discrimination and unhappiness. The songs were musically lush but driven and bleak.

Mississippi Lyrics

Paula Cole

I know Im big and proud all over
Not just on the stage
My secret self has many sides
That laugh and crush and sting
Im red and thick like fire
I like it from behind
Round to back
Red to white
Im pure inside and silent
Chorus:
Im alive
Gotta piece of my heart
On the sole of your shoe
Ive got a little bit of thunder
Trapped inside of a cloud
The dog in you
Spit me out into the mississippi
I know who can love my many selves
The wife the bitch the rapunzel
The one who cries
And calls for you
The one who is always alone
Chorus
Oh mississippi
Come and wash my pain away
Oh mississippi
Come and take my pain away
I feel Im drowning
I feel Im drowning
I feel im
I feel im
Dying
Chorus (3 times)
