Paula Cole Picture
Paula Cole (born April 5, 1968 in Rockport, Massachusetts, USA) is an American singer and songwriter. Among her hits include "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone," "Me," "I Am So Ordinary," "I Believe In Love," and the theme to the WB's hit series "Dawson's Creek," "I Don't Want to Wait." Cole released her debut album, Harbinger, in 1994 with Imago Records. She so entranced the industry with her vocals that she was asked to tour as an opening act for Peter Gabriel; she also appeared with Melissa Etheridge to sing a duet on VH1 though she was not well-known at the time. Harbinger featured songs dwelling on Cole's personal experience with discrimination and unhappiness. The songs were musically lush but driven and bleak.

Pearl Lyrics

Paula Cole

Humility on bleecker street
Exposed my faults until Im left defeated
Its been three years into this relationship
This is longer than I ever could commit
But I feel Im near
But I feel my fear
Im standing at the edge of another precipice in life
Gotta face my steppenwolf
Gotta drag you through the mud
When I get there I will see myself
I will look for strength within
I will be a better woman
Hang in there baby, Im the grain of sand
Becoming the pearl
There are no roll models in rock n roll
No women who could have it all
The long career, the man, the happy family
And here I stand and God I do demand it
And I feel Im near
But I feel my fear
Im standing at the edge of another precipice in life
Gotta face my steppenwolf
Gotta drag you through the mud
When I get there I will see myself
I will look for strength within
I will be a better woman
Hang in there baby, Im the grain of sand
Becoming the pearl
Its dark in here-dont know who I am
Memories come-Im wading through the moon
Evil side-wants to drag me down
Will power-god,please give me some
(Im hanging onto hope now)
Im standing at the edge of another precipice in life
Baggage from my family
Going back to therapy
I will kneel, be humble, tow the weight
I will look for strength within
I will be a better woman
Hang in ther baby, Im the grain of sand
Becoming the pearl
