Paula Cole Picture
Paula Cole (born April 5, 1968 in Rockport, Massachusetts, USA) is an American singer and songwriter. Among her hits include "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone," "Me," "I Am So Ordinary," "I Believe In Love," and the theme to the WB's hit series "Dawson's Creek," "I Don't Want to Wait." Cole released her debut album, Harbinger, in 1994 with Imago Records. She so entranced the industry with her vocals that she was asked to tour as an opening act for Peter Gabriel; she also appeared with Melissa Etheridge to sing a duet on VH1 though she was not well-known at the time. Harbinger featured songs dwelling on Cole's personal experience with discrimination and unhappiness. The songs were musically lush but driven and bleak.

Suwannee Jo Lyrics

Paula Cole

Idiot kitty to new york city
Living in a kennel and lookin big and pretty
Meet the munch for business lunch
But your feet bleed under the table
But suwannee jo, youre dark and slow
You dance with a broom and youre filled with ghosts
You smell like liquor and youre high as a hawk
You laugh to yourself but you talk like a rock
Scaredy kate, back in the haight
Doesnt answer the phone and eats like a tapeworm
She met mr.mike in89
But shes a hundred pounds heavier and wont go outside
But suwannee jo, youre dark and slow
You dance with a broom and youre filled with ghosts
Suwannee jo, strange beautiful gold,
You can take a womans husband
But you dont want to marry him
You just want to hold him
Nora mable, behind your table
Expensive knowledge from ten years of college
But when it comes to livin, the book isnt written
Your brains under m in the library missing
Suwannee jo, you follow your soul
(nothing more important than following your soul)
